Messenger of God
1 Corinthians 2:4-5 "And my speech and my preaching was not in
the enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the
spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the
wisdom of men, but in the power of God".
Today, many people are worshiping people. Today, heroes are
being born that will influence the next generation. It does not
matter if its an athlete, entertainer, preacher, or any other
type of public figure, the populace looks to man for their
leadership and role models. In the accentuation of man, God has
been lessened. First and foremost, the message must not precede
the messenger. The messenger is required to take a back seat to
the Word. The messenger is of no consequence nor importance.
God chooses the messenger to deliver and speak forth His Word.
We do not choose this calling ourselves (Matt 20:16, John 15:16).
John the Baptist for instance was the true example of the
messenger stepping aside for the message. In stepping aside he
prepared the way for the entrance of the Messiah (John 3:30). If
John had not decreased or had not become the smallest, then he
would have been hailed as the one to come to deliver the people
and would have ultimately failed in his calling. The Bible does
not praise John for his incredible speaking ability, his good
looks, or even his talents. What the Bible does emphasize is the
message he was speaking (Matt 3:2). The message has the power!
It is the same in Christian music. The musician "artist" is now
being lifted up as a "Superstar". Christian music is failing to
practice what it preaches. What I am saying is not industry or
artist bashing, it is a reminder for us to remember why we are
called into such a work. I can understand why some oppose the
contemporary Christian music; they are not seeing anything
different than they see in the secular world of music. We are to
come out from amongst the world and the things it stands for and
promotes; to separate ourselves and be different as the example
of truth. To lift up our Lord not ourselves as if we had the
power to do anything on own. The truth of the matter is, we as
the messenger absolutely must keep Christ first and take no
credit, receive no glory for what we do. Our reward is a
heavenly reward, not something in earthen vessels. 2 Corinthians
4:18 "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at
things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are
temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal".
